2008 1st Quarterly Crime Summit: Residential and Motor Vehicle Burglaries topped the list of concerns by area neighborhoods. DPD will increase patrols during the hours when the majority of burglaries have occured. Peninsula Volunteers in Patrol (PVIP) need to solicit the participation of neighbors at every intersection to be diligent in calling 911 on all suspicous activity and reporting the same to Crime Watch at 214/328-2222 and crime.watch@thedownergroup.com.

The City Attorney’s Office addressed concerns with solicitors in our neighborhood. There is no solicitation registration process with the City of Dallas. If a resident has a “No Soliciting” sign posted and the solicitor refuses to comply, he can be cited by a Police Officer under City Code Chapter 42 Section 42-21(a). If an individual violates a “No Trespassing” notice, he can be served a notice of violation and subsequently arrested on a 2nd violation under Texas Penal Code 30.05(b)(2)(C). PNA Crime Watch has “No Trespassing” signs available for purchase that are in code compliance for posting in front and back of the residence.

PVIP has a new arsenal in their toolbox: A security equipped PNA-PVIP marked patrol cart. Due to insurance requirements, only PVIP Members, that have requalified through DPD-VIP training every 2 years, are allowed to operate the security cart and only within the confines of the Peninsula neighborhood. Exception: The security cart can be operated, by PVIP Members only, outside the confines of the Peninsula neighborhood for special events with the permission of the PNA President and Crime Watch Chairperson.

Proposals: 1) Relocate the Northcliff Drive entry/exit to the Bath House Cultural Center, out of our neighbohood, to E. Lake Highlands Drive and into White Rock Lake Park along E. Lawther Drive past Dreyfuss Point. 2) Install a neighborhood surveillance system monitored by DPD and PNA Crime Watch. Go to the “Latest Postings” link to comment.
